Elon Musk and SpaceX probably held back space exploration by at least a few good years by incompetently wasting billions in NASA grants to develop “reusable rockets” that keep exploding.

These billions and years of research could’ve been given to a competent company that isn’t run by an egotistical manchild, or spent to develop a new rocket in-house.

Another aerospace company, Rocket Lab, was founded 4 years after SpaceX, developed their own rocket, the Electron, that actually works and has made more than 60 successful launches so far.

And they didn’t require billions in government grants to achieve it.

SpaceX’s most successful product, the Falcon 9 rocket, is based on decades-old NASA tech and was funded almost entirely by NASA grants. Yet the American taxpayer doesn’t own it or get to decide what to use it for.

there was a whole generation of boomers who fought for a better world, not as many of them survived as the ones who shaped a worse one. generation warfare is not real. they are not , and have never been your enemy for simply being born before you, and as you get older the youth will not be yours because the enemy has always been the ones holding power and abusing it

There is literally no circumstance where I support age verification to access a website. As I’ve said before I’m very much the “there’s nuance here” person on almost everything but on this issue there’s no nuance for me, it’s awful and horrible in and of itself and it also sets an awful and horrible precedent

I’m fine with “click here to confirm you’re an adult” because it keeps people from finding it by accident.

I do feel like what should have happened is that AI would spark conversations about water use and power use in the general tech/internet sphere, and how so much of the labor needed to keep it running is exploitative of people in the Global South. However, it feels like what has happened instead is a bunch of people have convinced themselves the problem isn’t the industry or anything, but actually it’s because AI has evil magic powers that make it the only problem. Once we defeat AI, everything will be okay again :)
